“The hand is the heart’s landscape.” - Pope John Paul II
Across cultures, time periods, and languages, hands have been a universal symbol of connection. Even the words we use to describe connection center around the actions and movement of a hand. “Reach out,” “that’s so touching,” “lend a hand,” and “hold you close” all illustrate the meaningfulness behind the gesture of a hand.
With a hand being the symbol of connection, it was only right for this to be a theme of the Postmark’d Parcels. Much of the Postmark’d purpose is wrapped in connection and hands are the way we do just that. Not only that, but our hands are on every piece of your Postmark’d experience; connecting us to you.
Hands are instruments of giving, of blessing, of healing, and of creating. We use the word hand to describe helpers and aides, we ask for it in marriage, we give it in praise. It is the first thing we use to reach out in welcome, and it is the thing we use in goodbye and letting go. It secures us to one another and bears each other farewell. Said best by an unknown author, “Our hands are the silent language of the heart.”
Our hands tell our stories. They are tools of creation and intimacy. They build, write, paint, yes - but they also comfort and care for those we hold dear. They are the first tools we wield in our lifetime, before speech and deed.
At Postmark’d Studio, we understand the power and place of hands. They write thoughts and express devotion, they fold notes and tie ribbons, they press words and well wishes onto paper with pen. We celebrate hands this month and always as the instruments of connection that they truly can be. Hands are the very things that make a letter better.
